Ed grew up in the landscape business working through college helping his dad in the family business. He received a B.S. Degree in Botany from the University of Tennessee in 1968 and a M.S. Degree in Horticulture from Ohio State University in 1970. After active duty in the military he helped build the Horticulture program at the Ohio State University Agriculture Technical Institute as the first Assistant Professor or Horticulture hired to begin the new Technical Institute in 1972. He returned to join his father in their fledgling container growing business in 1975 and has continued to grow the nursery to its present 5 locations.
Ed has served as founding President of the East Tennessee Horticulture and Landscape Association. He is a Past President of the Tennessee Nurseryman's Association. he was honored as Farmer or the Year in Knox County in 1990. He was Wholesale Nurseryman of the Year for TNA in 1991. He has been active in the Eastern Region of the International Plant Propagators Society for ove 20 years.
Ed's wife Cyndee is the book keeper and his sons Sam and Matt are also involved in the daiily operations of Kinsey Gardens. He also has two daughters and 4 granddaughters. |
